MIAS Course Dates.MIAS courses are particularly beneficial for those who wish to gain employment or work as independent operators within the travel industry. They are also very popular with teachers, youth leaders, scout leaders etc. who have benefited from a recognised qualification, from the N.V.Q. Awarding Body
Course Joining notes. Roughly the timings are Day 1 09.00 registration, 09.15-10.30 Course Modules, 10.30-10.45 Break, 10.45-12.30 Course Modules, 12.30-13.15 Break 13.15-14.00 Bike prep for riding skills, 14.00-15.45 Personal riding skills module, 15.45-16.00 Break 16.00-16.20 de-brief.
M O D Accredited. Every member of the services is entitled to £175.00 per year, to put towards the cost of personal development courses. All MIAS Mountain Bike related courses qualify for this funding support for MOD staff members. These training courses are civilian-recognised qualifications.
Bike Maint Course. Maintaining and repairing your mountain bike isn’t rocket science. There are some components such as expensive shocks that have to go away to specialists for overhaul. But you can save about 70% on Bike Shop costs by removing them and sending them away yourself.
Womens Courses. are run at our workshops in Glyncorrwg for ladies
Riding Skills Courses. The aim of these Personal Riding Skills Courses is to develop existing riding skills and to introduce new ones. Under our Guide/Instructors supervision You will be tackling the best the trails in Afan have to offer, rocky mountainous XC singletrack terrain.

Joining Notes for MIAS Mountain Bike Leader & MIAS Welsh Mountain Bike Leader

Please prepare a resume of your previous experience (APL) Accredited Previous Learning for Level 2 and bring it along with you.

Polish up your riding skills, navigation skills and leadership skills. A valid First Aid cert is not required for Level 1 and 2 at the time of assessment as your qualification with MIAS is only Valid if you have a current First Aid. MOD personnel are exempt from this.

If you fail to inform us that you will not be attending the course you have booked on within 10 working days of the assessment date 50% your deposit of £100.00 will be forfeit. This is because we have to register you with MIAS. (valid from 01-01-12)

Payment terms; a £100.00 deposit must be paid at the time of booking or alternatively an official Purchase Order can be used (until we receive either of these, you have no booking) The balance of £110.00 must be paid before or on the first day of the training assessment course.

Courses run in the Afan Valley in South Wales will be held at Unit 3 Glyncorrwg Community Workshops SA13 3EA check with Paul Peet 01639 893661 or 07882 595694

Students should use their own bikes, an inspection of conformity and safety will be performed by them before they ride (H&S). Alternatively we can provide bikes at a minimal cost of £25.00 for the course duration but this must be arranged and paid for in advance.

Tea and Coffee will be available during the day, please bring along a packed lunch on both days.

You must let us know in advance of any medical problems, allergies etc that you have. For the Bike Maintenance module we provide Latex protective Gloves. If you have an allergy to Latex then please bring along some protective gloves that suit your skin.

You will need clothing to include wet weather gear, suitable shoes, an approved helmet, a day glow or florescent cycling over vest, riding glasses, suitable riding gloves, a basic emergency repair kit for the cycle and yourself which must include two high calorie bars and a full drinks bottle. Please carry identity at all times with a record of your blood group if you have it.

Day 2, We need you at Glyncorrwg by 08.45. If your not there we can’t wait.

 

We aim to be back on the car-park at 14.00 and debrief the L1 and L2 groups independently.

 

You should get away no later than 16.00. Your Log-Book will be issued on day 2 if your course dues have been cleared.

 

The Certificate issued by the awarding body normally takes 14-30 days to arrive as it is issued directly to your address.
