Joining Notes for MIAS Mountain Bike Leader & MIAS Welsh Mountain Bike Leader

 

Note These MTB Leader Course start at Bryn Bettws Lodge Training Centre at 08.30

 

Payment terms; a £100.00 deposit must be paid at the time of booking or alternatively an official Purchase Order can be used (until we receive either of these, you have no booking) The balance of £105.00 must be paid before or on the first day of the training assessment course.

Registration for MIAS L1 and L2 training & assessments courses in S/Wales takes place at the Afan Valley Training School SA12 9SP which is at the Bryn Bettws Lodge Mountain Bike Centre. From J40 off the M4 follow the A4107 to Pontrhydyfen and turn left towards Neath, opposite the Colliers pub turn right following the sign for Tonmawr and Bryn Bettws. Please arrive before 08-45 on the first day of the training assessment course. The course starts at 08.45 being late shows bad manners and a total disregard for others on the course and will lead to your exclusion.

Students should use their own bikes, an inspection of conformity and safety will be performed by them before they ride (H&S). Alternatively we can provide bikes at a minimal cost of £25.00 for the course duration but this must be arranged and paid for in advance.

Tea and Coffee will be available during the day, please bring along a packed lunch on both days (until the new Cafe opens in April) and any soft or energy drinks that you prefer.

You must let us know in advance of any medical problems, allergies etc that you have. For the Bike Maintenance module we provide Latex protective Gloves. If you have an allergy to Latex then please bring along some protective gloves that suit your skin.

 

Health and Safety and protective elements must be observed at all times as they are by Afan Valley employees during the role play carried out through the course.

Roughly the timings are Day 1 08.30 registration, 08.45-10.30 Course Modules, 10.30-10.45 Break, 10.45-12.30 Course Modules, 12.30-13.15 Break 13.15-14.00 Bike prep for riding skills, 14.00-15.45 Personal riding skills module, 15.45-16.00 Break 16.00-16.20 de-brief, 16.20-18.00 Route planning for day 2.

Day 2, We meet at Unit 3 Glyncorrwg Community Workshops at 08-30 prompt (we leave at 08.45 on the ride. If your not there we can’t wait). We aim to be back on the car-park at 15.00 and debrief the L1 and L2 groups independently. You should get away no later than 16.30. A copy of the Instructors assessment and your log book will arrive through the post within 14 days and your MIAS Certificate issued by the ABC awarding body normally takes 14-21 days to arrive as it is issued from Reading University and we can’t gee them up.

You will need clothing to include wet weather gear, suitable shoes, an approved helmet, a day glow or florescent cycling over vest, riding glasses, suitable riding gloves, a basic emergency repair kit for the cycle and yourself which must include two high calorie bars and a full drinks bottle. Please carry identity at all times with a record of your blood group if you have it.

Please prepare a resume of your previous experience (APL) for Level 2 and post it to Afan Valley MTB. 76 Ynys-Y-Gored. Port Talbot. SA13 2EB. This must reach us no later than 14 days in advance of the assessment day. If it doesn’t you will be Level 1 and no arguments will change this unless you are serving in the Military or have spoken to us on 01639 893661.

Polish up your riding skills, navigation skills and leadership skills which are all outlined in the Training Manual. A valid First Aid cert is required for Level 1 and 2. We must have a copy of it or we will not issue you with a log-book until we have a copy.

If you fail to inform us that you will not be attending the course you have booked on within 10 working days of the assessment date your deposit of £100.00 will be forfeit.
