Steve Roberts has been riding Mountain bikes in and around the Afan Valley for nearly 20 years and knows the area like the back of his hand.

He has ridden all over Wales and the UK and also the French Alps, Austria, Cyprus, Turkey and Iceland. Combine this with his love of Mountain bike endurance events, His ML training, teaching Duke of Edinburgh, rock and ice climbing, hill walking, Surfing and an interest in Survival and Bushcraft  and you have a very experienced and knowledgeable  Mountain bike guide and instructor at MIAS Level 4

Paul Massey has been interested in outdoor activities since the 60s when as a teenager he achieved a Gold DofE and Queen Scout award. He led the 7th Willenhall Scouts and Youth Clubs throughout the 60’s and early 70’s when he moved to Staffordshire.

He has lived less than a 5 minute bike ride from Cannock Chase for more than 30 years and will guide you over it and tell of its history.

Through MIAS and Afan Valley Paul a MIAS Level 5 Instructor works with young people and those who consider themselves young enough to get out exploring on a Bike

Nigel Thomas has worked as an outdoor activity instructor for many years including a spell at the Pellena mountain centre in Tonmawr, his main activity at that time was rock climbing. He has been mountain biking since 1990 and knows all the trails here in Afan very very well.

He has mountain biked in many other parts of the UK as well as in Europe. In 2006 he spent 5 weeks in the USA mountain biking in Fruita, Moab and Colorado finishing off the trip by crossing the Rockies from Denver to Durango. He is a qualified MIAS guide at Level 4

Peter Slingerland is a MIAS Level 5 Instructor and the senior member of the MIAS team at Afan Valley. Peter carries out assignments throughout the UK and in Spain on our behalf.

Peter has been a regular competitor in events like the Mountain Mayhem and the Brecon Beast. He has been Mountain Biking for 15 years and is familiar with most purpose built trails in Wales and from his specialist work in tracing rights of way he has a fantastic knowledge of general trails.

Much of his time is involved with teaching children the finer points and safety aspects of Mountain Bike riding he has an enhanced CRB.

Tony Jones is a Level 4 MIAS Instructor, apart from his regular assignments Guiding in the South Wales valleys and running training courses Tony is a specialist with youngsters and has an enhanced CRB
