Dragonflys to rare Little Egret.

This part of the Celtic Trail is traffic free. Leave the car park at Gorsinon and the steepest hill on the trail is soon encountered as you climb over the new Millennium bridge that elevates you over the A 484. Before you lies one of the most internationally acclaimed habitats for Bird life in Europe.

The Millennium Coastal Park Cycle Path is part of the Celtic Trail designated as Sustrans route 4. Join the path at Gorsinon and ride on towards Llanelli, Burry Port and Pembrey. This trail offers superb views over the Loughor estuary. The Bird life is incredible. The route is well surfaced and is a pleasure to ride for anyone.

For groups wanting to ride this path we can deliver bicycles and collect them later in the day. Island House B+B is an ideal base for a cycling holiday situated by the Loughor River. Cycles can be collected by arrangement (Minimum group size 4 riders). Click on Celtic Trail for more information and pictures of the Coastal  Path.

As the tide recedes vast areas of mud and shingle become available for the myriad of resident and visiting wading Birds. Other waders you might see are Cockler’s disappearing into the watery wastes of the estuary in their four wheel drives. Be sure to bring your Binoculars.

The National Wetlands Complex is about two miles into the journey and well worth a visit not only does it give you the opportunity to observe Bird life but there are Sculptures in the setting of the complex. Leaving the Wetlands Centre your heading towards Llanelli which is about three miles of easy riding passing the new Golf centre on your way.

At the North Dock in Llanelli the new Discovery Centre is located right on the Coastal path, an interesting place to visit before having a Coffee or Ice Cream. Moving on west the trail is paved as it heads on towards Burry Port, the Port area and town are well worth a visit. Pembrey Country Park boasts a dry Ski Slope and is further west. It borders onto one of Wales’s most spectacular beaches. If you still have the time, the town of Kidwelly lies further west. Kidwelly has a superb Castle and lots of Pubs and Restaurants. Just bear in mind that you have to retrace your steps so don’t over do it and have an enjoyable comfortable day.

Riding the Celtic Trail from Gorsinon to Pembrey and back in an effortless day.
